Legally relevant facts

The indictment inter alia alleged that Lipovac, during the armed conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), as a member of the 103^rd Brigade of the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) and as commander of the camp set up in an elementary school in the settlement of Poljari (BiH), participated in murders as well as in different forms of mental and physical torture of Serb civilians. In the first half of June 1992, Lipovac allegedly entered the camp premises and hit one prisoner several times, took him out of the camp and shot him dead with an automatic weapon. During the same period he allegedly treated the detained civilians inhumanely, abused them brutally, and insulted them on the basis of ethnicity. As further alleged in the indictment, in June 1992, Lipovac entered the camp premises where civilians were detained and confiscated their belongings like money, jewellery and other items of value they possessed.

For these crimes, Lipovac was charged with the war crimes against civilians of murder, torture, inhumane treatment and property confiscation.
